Oud Wood opens up as medicinal, slightly spicy and peppery. And something in it reminds me of aged leather. (Leather isn't listed, but it is definitely there).

There's an unusual mushroom quality to Oud Wood. I assume this is the synthetic agarwood that everyone speaks of when trying this fragrance. It's like a mushroom wrapped in plastic in a leather satchel. Oud Wood comes across as synthetic, too good to be true, another reason why I like it.

This isn't one of those "natural" Middle Eastern smelling ouds. It wears as a haze of leathery, smoky woods with a small amount of Indian spices. It's woodsy with a sandalwood softness and sweet tonka bean and amber. It's rich and sweet and the woods add some dimension.

Overall, Oud Wood isn't "loud" like other oud scents, like from Montale. One of the most rare, precious and expensive ingredients in a perfumer's arsenal, TOM FORD's Oud Wood fragrance is a rich, warm scent to intense the senses. Exotic rose wood and cardamom give way to a smoky blend of rare oud wood, sandalwood and vetiver, while soothing tonka bean and amber add a touch of sensuality. The purpose of Oud Wood is to present Oud in a rather unfettered form, but to also button it up nice and structured, so it appeals to Western tastes. Oud Wood has the medicinal facets of agarwood, but not the dirty animalic barnyard facets that it often takes when paired with rose or leather.

This dry, semi-sweet, muted oud is paired with a few other woods in the note pyramid, and graced with a top of Sichuan pepper. The opening of Oud Wood is that pepper, saddled with rosewood and cardamom, two 70's throwback stalwarts that make Oud Wood feel older in style than it is with their aromatic spicy dustiness. The starring oud note shows soon after, paired with creamy sandalwood and slightly smoky vetiver, which carries on the dusty/chalky nature of Oud Wood. There's also tonka and vanilla to round out and sweeten the skin finish, but it's not enough to purge the mind of a can of Comet.

The smokiness reminds me of the atmosphere of an ancient incense-filled temple during some spiritual function, where the walls, floor and roof soak in burnt olibanum oil veil.

The TF fragrance goes on with a heavy but majestic black fragrance of black wood incense. The incense is naturally brooding, with a smoky, frosted texture. Although both woody, incense is very different from cedar, sandalwood and guaiac woods. The spicy scent of pepper, like a stubble-ridden yuppie or a woman in a suit with a cigarette in her mouth, TF's fragrance is so wonderful, it always breaks through the limits of gender. So, it makes sense that I would like Tom Ford Private Blends Oud Wood. It wears like a close haze around the skin. Women can most definitely pull this off, don't think this is a "man's" scent. Some may argue with me, but this is one of those scents that wears wonderfully on me, a lady.

I think it's one of the sexiest fragrances that I own. It's a hazy, woodsy fragrance with a soft, sweet base. No florals, making this a very appealing wood.

I think the lack of florals is what makes people think of this as a masculine fragrance. It's a strong and bold fragrance without being too overpowering. It does lean more masculine but I still think it's unisex enough for a woman to wear. It has a lovely mix of vanilla, amber and sandalwood.

The oud in the scent is noticeable but on the softer side when mixed with the Tonka Bean and Vanilla. It wears very well on the skin and like most Tom Ford fragrances I've tried, lasts all day long without fading. I recommend reading the reviews on Fragrantica, Basenotes.net, Kafkaesque and Temptalia. The very first impression is of rose and sweet, nutty cardamom.

There is also Szechuan pepper, earthy vetiver, and hints of rich vanilla as if from a freshly cut Madagascar bean. Oud Wood is now primarily a vetiver, cardamom and oud fragrance with the rose becoming increasingly fainter. Sandalwood makes its appearance, pushing the rose completely off the stage and blending with the vanilla, cardamom and the earthy vetiver in a truly lovely manner. At times, it seems as though Oud Wood is mainly a vanilla vetiver with hints of oud and spice. At other times, it's mostly sandalwood with vetiver. The perfume fluctuates and undulates, showing just how well-blended it is.

I should add that I'm using Oud Wood for more than a year now to the point that I think it has become my signature scent(although I didn't believe in signature scents before). I find it the most versatile and easy to wear scent from the Private Blend collection . Also it's amazing for blending(my favorite is Arabian Wood+Oud Wood combination).

It lasts long on my skin but its not too potent. My favorite part is its dry down with creamy tonka bean and sandalwood. On the finish, the woody background prevails, sometimes almost green, complex, dry, which gives the perfume a vaguely austere elegance. The creamy and powdery aromas of tonka pod, spicy vanilla, and sensual amber give the fragrance a dense trail of warmth and sensuality. There are faint traces of vanilla and tonka.

The base is not a sweet and gourmand bomb, and the oud occasionally appears fleeting, but the ground is mostly just sandalwood and vetiver. Using that bit of amber is done masterfully, and if they used more, the bottom would become too sweet and powdery a deal. A very virile, woody and at the same time gentle and masculine drydown. It is a calmness that is willing to be approached, especially for winter.

It can be uncomfortable at first, but after a few attempts, you simply fall in love with the scent. Métallique is grossly underrated in the Tom Ford lineup, especially as a scent for men. It blends floral notes with crisp bergamot, spicy pink peppercorn, and a strong, creamy vanilla-sandalwood base. It's one of the brand's more "classic" scents in terms of its wear, with a universally pleasing cast . I think that people expect all Tom Ford fragrances to scream and shout, whereas this one plays by the rules and earns perfect marks for it. Ultimately, Oud Wood is intended to be a pleasant amber-based scent with a strong plonk of oud, surrounded by filler woods and spice to keep it in the semi-formal/semi-romantic zone.

The Comet association with the dustiness of the stuff is unfortunate, but not a total deal breaker. However, the fairly weak projection and below-average longevity for an eau de parfum are, so I can't really recommend this. As an early American take on the wood once exclusive to the Middle East, it's decent enough, but really shouldn't be more than $50 for a 1.7oz/50ml bottle, and not somewhere near $200.

What compounds this worse is the hype behind this particular Private Blend, along with Tobacco Vanille , as the two must-haves for men from the house. I received a sample of this perfume along with an order I recently placed. You can't imagine my reaction when I saw it was none other than Tom Ford Oud Wood. Yes, because this perfume is on my wishlist, together with Faking Fabolous.

I love potent aromas, everything related to the word "animal", understood as something that comes from the way of the fauna and the flora. Mineral, metallic, resinous, smoky, leathery, medicinal scents drive me crazy. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that ingredients such as leather, moist earth, rain, resins, petrichor, balsams, syrups, and amber are all my cup of tea.

By the way, about Oud Wood, this fragrance differs from most of the Arabian colognes, meaning it does not rely on the well-known formula of oud-rose or oud-saffron pairs. Instead, it is planned differently without too much sweetness. It doesn't smell like any other Oud out there, and I think that's why I love it. Because it smells different, like I've never smelled any other perfume like this before. There is a brief moment maybe of a few seconds, after the top notes dissipate where you get a floral scent like lavender or the like, but not a feminine floral like jasmine. If I were to speculate, based upon the rarity of Oud, I imagine the showcase of Oud in this fragrance to be an accord. If I were to wager a guess to the composition of the Oud accord, it would be a leather accord, the 'woodiness' to come from birch and or moss and the smokiness to come from Oak or the like. My interpretation of Oud wood is more 'incensy' and not so smoky and leathery. Every time I've worn this I CANNOT stop smelling my wrist, and it has great sillage and longevity is 6+ hours from one spray.

Oud is my favorite note and it is definitely prominent in this, but in a very friendly, NOT HARSH way. I can smell the rosewood and vetiver, but the vetiver is also not as masculine as I'm used to, and that's a good thing. This is a soft unisex fragrance that wears well on either gender. Nothing sharp, harsh, or headache-inducing here, just a very well-blended gorgeous scent. By far one of my favourite Oud fragrances.

I agree that Oud Wood is pretty unisex, at least for women who are used to wearing unisex frags, particularly dry, woody ones. I have often read reviews by the guys on Basenotes asserting that scents I love to wear are absolutely extremely masculine. In this cologne you should be able to detect a variety of smells. The first impression comes from grapefruit, orange blossom, and sage, so the fragrance opens up with a herbal, aromatic profile. This continues into an intriguing blend of nutmeg, orris root, and pimento as the middle notes which are perfectly balanced with the rich woody notes of vetiver, oakmoss, and amber. This is the kind of cologne that will make you feel like a sophisticated man who isn't afraid of outdoor adventures and has a rugged personality.

Will Windows 11 Update Be Free

If your existing Windows 10 PC is running Windows 10 20H1 or later and meets the minimum hardware specifications it will be able to upgrade to Windows 11. The upgrade rollout plan is still being finalized, but for most devices already in use today, we expect it to be ready sometime in early 2022. Not all Windows 10 PCs that are eligible to upgrade will be offered to upgrade at the same time. To see if your PC is eligible to upgrade, refer to the specifications here. Once the upgrade rollout has started, you can check if it is ready for your device by going to Settings/Windows Updates. Similar to how end users are notified when updates are available in Windows 10, end users will see an indication in the notification areas of the taskbar in the bottom right, that the upgrade is available.

More information on how that is presented will be available at a later date. Additional desktop notification options may be also be added at a later date. Microsoft finally launched Windows 11 earlier this week, proving that the operating system update isn't what many feared — a Windows 10 paint job. Unless you crave the cutting edge, it's okay to wait on upgrading for now. Windows updates are exciting and it can be tempting to be on the ground floor for any major technology release. More frequently, you'll find that certain features just aren't finished yet and the experience isn't as polished as it will eventually become. You'll be one of the first to experience those exciting new features but it often demands more patience as they continue to be developed. Windows 11 brings a number of enhancements to Windows users, including a new look, multitasking enhancements, improved gaming performance, Android app support, and more. Aesthetically, it will have a new, frosted glass look, and a reworked start menu, now known as the Dock, optimized for touch input on the latest devices.

Some third-party software may refuse to run on unsupported configurations of Windows 11. A redesigned user interface is present frequently throughout the operating system, building upon Fluent Design System; translucency, shadows, a new color palette, and rounded geometry are prevalent throughout the UI.

Internet Explorer has been replaced by the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge as the default web browser, and Microsoft Teams is integrated into the Windows shell. Microsoft also announced plans to allow more flexibility in software that can be distributed via Microsoft Store, and to support Android apps on Windows 11 . If you are having a brand new laptop or PC, then your system must be compatible with Windows 11 or even might come with it preinstalled.

But issues may arise with the older versions of PCs, as its hardware might not match with the requirements of Windows 11. If your PC has a 7th gen or previous Intel CPU, then it is unsupported by the latest upgrade. Still, you can migrate to Windows 11, but the way is a little more complicated as you will need to download install files, then perform a clean install and then restore the program and data files. With its machine learning technology, Microsoft has determined further devices on which the Windows 11 update prompt should now appear automatically. Users can simply check the regular Windows Update application in order to verify whether the Windows 11 upgrade is ready to download on their respective device. If your computer meets the minimum requirements to run Windows 11, you can sign up for the Windows Insider Program today and download the update today. If you'd rather wait for the official release, which will also be free for eligible Windows 10 users, the only thing to do at this point is wait.

Once it's available, you'll either be able to download directly through the Windows Update tool or as a standalone download from Microsoft. As we mention above, if you do decide to try the preview version, be sure to back up your computer and prepare to encounter a few bugs in this early release. Windows 11 is now available as a free upgrade for computers already running Windows 10 that meet the minimum system requirements, and it is also available pre-installed on many branded devices. However, the rollout will be phased and controlled to provide a good upgrade experience, which means that it'll take months before the new version reaches every device.

For many people, that's about the time to upgrade to a newer device, one that will come with Windows 11 already installed. If the Microsoft Surface family of products isn't your style though, other brands like Dell, Asus and HP have all released pages online that specify what devices are Windows 11 ready.

Note that many won't come with the new operating system installed, but as they all meet the minimum system requirements, you can simply buy the laptop or 2-in-1 as normal and then update it yourself. Windows 11 has higher technical requirements than Windows 10, is possible to install Windows 11 on devices that don't meet the minimum requirements. I've been using beta versions of Windows 11 for a month in the lead-up to writing this review, and it seems like every few days there's a minor new feature or redesigned app to check out. We may not see that feature fully realized in Windows until next year. Citing security considerations, the system requirements for Windows 11 were increased over Windows 10. While the OS can be installed on unsupported processors, Microsoft does not guarantee the availability of updates.

Windows 11 also drops support for 32-bit x86 CPUs and devices which use BIOS firmware. Microsoft has yet released an official statement regarding the pricing of Windows, or whether it will be a free upgrade like the previous versions were free updates for license holders. However, as per an article by Android Authority, Windows 11 will most likely be a free upgrade for individuals using Windows 10 or Windows 8 with valid licenses.

The Windows 11 free upgrade will be installed onto your computer/laptop just like any other Windows update, without any hassle or manual updation required. The article by Android Authority also states that all of your personal user data and settings will be preserved in the update and will be applied to the Windows 11 update. Windows 11 download will be available once Microsoft released the update publicly. Windows 11 will be provided as a free update to all eligible devices that are currently running Windows 10. Eligibility for automatic upgrade is based on certain minimum hardware requirements. If you have a computer with unsupported hardware, you should not try to upgrade to Windows 11.

Although there are workarounds to bypass the TPM 2.0 and other checks, if you manage to install version 21H2, the device will state in an unsupported state. According to Microsoft, devices are likely to experience more crashes, you won't get the support of any kind, and updates are not guaranteed. That said, if you're feeling adventurous or wait until Microsoft officially releases Windows 11 to the public, this new OS has a lot of interesting features that are poised to genuinely change your computing experience. Snap Layouts should offer better multitasking support, especially on large or ultrawide monitors. DirectStorage can offer big reductions to load times for gamers.

Android app support opens a whole new app ecosystem up to Windows users. Only time will tell if Windows 11 proves to be as popular as Windows 10, but it seems like Microsoft is providing compelling reasons to sign up for the update when the time is right for you. If you haven't seen it through Windows Update yet, you can still get the final build through the Beta and Release Preview channels of the Windows Insider Program, as long as you have a compatible PC.

The Dev channel is already running rs_prerelease builds to test out new features, so be careful with that. If you enroll in the Dev channel, you'll have to do a clean installation of Windows 11 to roll back. And of course, you can also get it on a bunch of new laptops and desktops like the Surface Laptop Studio and Surface Pro 8. Windows 11 SE was announced on November 9, 2021, as an edition exclusively for low-end devices sold in the education market, and a successor to Windows 10 S. It is bundled with applications such as Microsoft Office for Microsoft 365, Minecraft Education Edition, and Flipgrid, while OneDrive is used to save files by default.

Windows 11 SE does not include Microsoft Store; third-party software is provisioned or installed by administrators. As part of the minimum system requirements, Windows 11 only runs on devices with a Trusted Platform Module 2.0 security coprocessor. According to Microsoft, the TPM 2.0 coprocessor is a "critical building block" for protection against firmware and hardware attacks.

In addition, Microsoft now requires devices with Windows 11 to include virtualization-based security , hypervisor-protected code integrity , and Secure Boot built-in and enabled by default. The operating system also features hardware-enforced stack protection for supported Intel and AMD processors for protection against zero-day exploits. Microsoft makes you accept that the company can stop providing updates, and security patches to Windows 11 on these devices. While Microsoft is unlikely to do that in practice, it's still better to be on the safer side.

Also, you're likely to run into driver incompatibility issues on unsupported devices. Especially, if your computer is running hardware that is more than 5-6 years old. Most Windows 10 PCs currently being sold will be able to upgrade to New Windows. For the PC to be able to upgrade to New Windows, it must meet the minimum hardware specifications and specific hardware is required for some features found here.

The upgrade rollout plan is still being finalised but is scheduled to begin late in 2021 and continue into 2022. There is a way to install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware, but we wouldn't recommend it. Although Microsoft hasn't confirmed it, the company has heavily implied that unsupported users won't receive critical security updates. If you still want to install, you can do so using the Media Creation Tool, which bypasses hardware checks.

Tech enthusiasts have been waiting for a long time for the Windows 11 update.
